Delegation from the Canadian Muslim Forum has met with the rector of Concordia University Dr. Frederick Lowy and the university director Dr. Dennis J. Murphy at the rector’s cabinet office on Wednesday September 5th, 2001 at 10:00 A.M.
The Canadian Muslim Forum has brought to the rector’s attention the Muslim community’s concerns about freedom of expression on the university campus, and has inquired about the university’s expulsion decision of the two pro-human rights university students and whether procedures of a due process of inquiry have been pursued.
In line with the Canadian and Quebec society’s socio-democratic tradition with respect to pluralism, tolerance, freedom of expression, and mutual understanding and respect, and in conformity with the university’s mission of building a community of students based on this tradition of values and principles; the Canadian Muslim Forum has taken the initiative to ask the university rector; Dr. Frederick Lowy, to announce the official position of Concordia with regard to the current inquiry of the two pro-human rights pro-Palestinian students and to clarify the university’s position in relation to claims that a special interest group lobby has influenced Concordia university to side with one group to the detriment of another.
